I teach with a focus on good basic technique, practical theoretical knowlege, and a view of the musical whole beyond the individual notes. I also put an emphasis on the physical layout of the piano and the different chord and scale shapes that arise from it, giving the student larger structures to relate an individual piece to and facilitating in the understanding of concepts such as key relationships, modulation, chord substitutions and reharmonization, the Circle of Fifths, and so on. These tools give the student the basic foundation and understanding to play any type of music on the piano, from jazz to rock to classical.

I teach both new students with no previous experience and students looking for a different approach and perspective. My students range in age from seven to adult.
